In the gentle embrace of the night, Susan Darlene Franks, fondly known as Suzie Q to many, completed her earthly journey on October 10, 2025. Born on August 12, 1941, in Tempe, Arizona, Susan’s life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and countless games of chess. She wove her love for knitting and chess into an extraordinary victory as the State Chess Champion of 2023. Her spirit, akin to a chess queen, moved freely and fiercely, radiating wisdom and warmth.

Susan’s life was a journey through many places, from her birthplace of Tempe to the scenic landscapes of Boise, Idaho. But the destination she cherished most was the haven of love and unity she created with her beloved family. Susan leaves behind a legacy of love, remembered and celebrated by her sister, daughter, niece, granddaughter, and her life partner, Sarah Kravitz.

A service to honor Susan’s memory will be held on Tuesday, 14 Oct 2025 at 3:00pm MDT at Wood River Chapel, 403 North Main Street, Hailey, Idaho, 83333.
