What is the difference between a funeral and a memorial service?
A funeral service usually takes place with the body present, while a memorial service is held without the body. Both are meant to honor and celebrate the life of the person who has passed.
What is cremation, and can we still have a service?
Cremation is an alternative to burial where the body is reduced to ashes. Families can still have a traditional funeral, a memorial service, or a celebration of life either before or after the cremation.
Do we need to have a viewing or visitation?
A viewing or visitation is optional. Many families find it comforting to have this time to say goodbye and receive support from friends, but it’s a personal choice.
What are my options for the cremated remains after cremation?
Cremated remains can be placed in an urn, buried in a cemetery, kept at home, or scattered in a meaningful location (as allowed by law). Some families also choose keepsake jewelry or other memorial items.
